The first phase of our master-plan for The John Lyon School has been carefully designed to integrate with the existing buildings on a campus that is restricted in area and contains a number of heritage assets.
The new refectory provides a coffee shop and self-service catering facility in a building with a high degree of glazing, designed to reflect the surrounding buildings and allow views over a multi-level courtyard. The relationship with listed buildings and the external spaces have been carefully considered in order to maintain the special character of the school.
Sixth Form Centre
The locally listed Neo-Gothic building at The John Lyon School has been cleaned, restored and refurbished within the structure to provide a new sixth form centre with modern teaching and IT facilities. The essential elements that contribute to the character of the internal spaces have been retained and restored and the opportunity has been taken to provide modern services and equipment.
The formerly gloomy interiors have been converted into vibrant teaching spaces and a small glazed extension has been discretely added to the building to improve access.
