NEW SCHOOL OF MUSIC

SOLIHULL SCHOOL

This new building houses teaching and practice rooms, performance spaces and a sound recording studio, arranged on either side of a two-storey glazed atrium, designed as a ‘street’ linking the various facilities.

The layout follows the linear configuration of the site and its form results from the requirement to isolate one sound generating space from another. The elevations are designed to provided a high degree of natural light and the faceted facades allow the windows from each area to be separated one from another to reduce sound transmission.
