This conference and training centre was designated under local plan policy as a major developed site in the Green Belt only suitable for infill development. The reduction in the use of the site provided the opportunity to reconsider the quantity of development and a master plan was designed to gain outline consent for low rise housing.
Detailed site appraisals, landscape impact studies, and assessments of the character of the adjoining village were prepared to justify this intervention in the Green Belt. Consent was granted for a maximum of three hundred dwellings, not to exceed the footprint of demolished buildings.
