Music School, Solihull School
The new David Turnbull Music School provides a self-contained, two-storey building, complete with teaching, performance and administration spaces. The teaching and practice rooms are arranged on either side of a central double-height atrium leading to a recital room, which can seat an audience of 100 people and has full recording facilities.
The linear layout results from the need to separate particular areas - rehearsal, performance, rock and percussion rooms from quieter spaces, and to provide a good level of daylight throughout the building. The faceted facade is designed to reduce sound transmission and prevent overlooking of adjoining classrooms.
